The United States of Australia is a hilarious and educational introduction to Australia and its quirky inhabitants. Written for Americans, but equally amusing to anyone visiting the shores of the Great Southern Land, this book examines the relationship between Australia and the U.S., including how Australians view their American cousins.
The author has plenty of experience of working and dealing with Americans. He is married to an American nurse and has lived his life within the massive cultural influence that America has shared with Australia since the Second World War. The author’s stories are brimming with empathy and jokes for his American audience. The book is written from the opinion of an Aussie Bloke and the easy-to-digest chapters are just long enough to leave the reader smiling and well informed.
Topics include Blokes and Sheilas, Bloody Foster’s, Dangerous Creatures, Talking to Dogs, The GAFA, Speaking Strail-yun and Working for the Queen. Confused? You won’t be after reading this book!

VERY LITTLE CONTENTShort collection of personal pet peeves of author with very few details about Australian culture. Provides examples of a few vernacular words but nothing that would assist you in understanding the cultural context of the English spoken there, unless perhaps if you spent time in a dive bar in some remote area (to which there are numerous referrals). No value in understanding business or everyday life in Australia.

The United States of Australia An Aussie Bloke Explains Australia to Americans eBook Cameron Jamieson Reviews
Ran into this bloke in Sydney and he told me about his book. I really enjoyed reading it, and also appreciate the heads up about drop bears. Important info. This is a must-read primer for Americans who have no idea.
If you want to learn a bit of Australian slang while getting a bit of history from the author, this book delivers. It could have contained a bit more of general Australian history, but it's a pretty decent primer on how not to be a tool when visiting Oz.
Lots of useful information provided in an easy-to-read and humorous way. Enjoyed it a lot.
Ok, I may be a little biased but having visited Australia, I can say I wished I'd read this first! I read other books with expansive info on Australia but didn't convey nearly as much as this one. It is also quite amusing and made me laugh out loud!
This is a good 1-2 hour read. It has enough insight and good information to retain, but not overkill. I also enjoyed the humor. Well worth it.
This Sheila enjoyed this brief tongue in cheek view of Americans and Australians face to face. As with most humor, there is an anchor of truth in all of the wit. As an American going to Australia soon, I am ready to relax and enjoy a good beer.
This is an interesting read into the mind of an Australian and his views on American Australian relationships. It’s humorous and educational but honestly feels lacking when it really comes to Australian mindset. There’s ton of information about US AU military relations thanks to the authors service time but outside of that it’s a bit tunnel visioned in the grand scheme of Australian thought.
